Summary

Ebriza is a point-of-sale and business management platform for hospitality and retail. In 2024 I worked on a refactoring of the product: rebuilding the interface around how staff actually work rather than around how the system was structured.

NOTE:Draft. Scope, decisions and outcomes are waiting on the interview. Screens will be exported from the 2024 refactoring file in Figma.

The design problem

Point-of-sale is one of the few interfaces where speed is the entire product. It is operated standing up, one-handed, mid-conversation, often by someone in their first week. Every extra tap is repeated hundreds of times a shift.

A refactor of a working POS carries a specific risk: the existing staff have muscle memory in it, exactly like the B4 planners had in Excel. Improvements that ignore that memory get rejected on the floor regardless of how much better they test in a lab.
